9 tips for gaining subscribers on TikTok

You've published your first videos and you can't manage to gain subscribers on TikTok? Has the idea of buying followers crossed your mind? 😱

Don't even think about it!

With over 1 billion active users on the app by 2022, you have every chance of building a large subscriber basewithout pulling out your wallet.

But you are probably wondering how your account can be visible on the social network? Better yet, are you looking for the best tips to make people want to subscribe to your profile ?

Today, we're giving you 9 concrete and unstoppable tips to help you gain subscribers and build your brand awareness on TikTok.

What you need to know:

The majority of TikTok influencers in France have between 1,000 and 5,000 followers. Only 4.04% of influencers have more than 100,000 followers and can set up paid collaborations with brands(HypeAuditor).

These numbers are constantly growing and the number of content creators is climbing day by day, making the competition more and more fierce. If you want to get started on TikTok, now is the time!

1. Post TikTok videos regularly

As with most social networks, posting content regularly is the key to growing your following on TikTok.

It's common sense when you think about it: human beings will always tend to be more attached to someone they can trust and see on a daily basis than to someone who pops up whenever they want.

It is recommended to post at least once a day, every day, to acquire followers. It may sound like a lot but honestly, you can never post too much on the social network.

The only exception to the rule is for creators who make long video content. In this case, you can only post 2 or 3 times a week.

But these are just recommendations. When you start on TikTok, focus on regularity rather than on the number of videos published on your account.

However, it is not a question of doing quantity without thinking about quality. Indeed, to gain subscribers on TikTok, the trick of posting regularly is not enough. Your videos must be pleasant to watch and well integrated with the native content of the application.Β

2. Find your niche to attract qualified subscribers

As tempting as it is to be liked by everyone on TikTok, it's much more realistic to find a niche and stick to it.

Think about the type of subscribers you want to attract to your profile and make your videos with them in mind.

To find your niche, you can combine 2 or 3 topics that you are passionate about. Another option is to choose an aspect of one of your passions that has not yet been covered on the platform. For example, there are countless designers talking about fashion on TikTok. But have you seen fashion videos for women over 6 feet tall? Now that's a niche to tap into. πŸ˜„

If you regularly post awesome fashion TikToks such as try-ons or hauls, you' ll gain subscribers who love fashion even if they're not 5'10".

‍A good example is the TikTok account of Denise Mercedes and Maria Castellanos. It is immediately clear from their videos that they want to show that fashion is not about size. They even created the hashtag #StyleNotSize, where they duplicate the same outfits to promote a positive body message. They have more than 367.9M views on their hashtag at the time of writing!

3. Stand out to grow your community

At first glance, this advice may seem like a bit of a stretch, but it's essential to be creative to stand out on TikTok.

Don't publish what everyone else is publishing. Think about how you can bring something new to your niche and your followers.

Communicate on TikTok with funny, inspiring, educational videos... Videos that are so fun to watch that users will want to share them with their friends.

4. Identify trends and realize them quickly

While it's good practice to be creative and try to set trends, you shouldn't shy away from copying them either. And for good reason, following trends is a great way to get noticed on TikTok.

Identify emerging trends and create content as quickly as possible. The sooner your video covering the trend is released, the more likelyit is to go viral.

How to find trends? Take a stroll through the ForYou page and especially, check out the Discover page for challenges put forth by Tiktok. Trends may involve the use of a song, visual effects or lip-sync. Stay tuned for emerging trends and get ready to get in on the action!‍

5. Be spontaneous, be yourself

To get subscribers on TikTok, your content can't just be what everyone else finds inspiring or funny. It has to be authentic. What do you, personally, find inspiring or funny? Share it with the world, even if you haven't seen other creators do it.Β

If you want to be recognized on the social network, don't be afraid to share your opinions and views, even if they are not popular ones. You'll always find people who agree with you. And probably more than you think.

Be inspired by other TikTokeurs, but stay true to yourself and your personality.

6. Accept that not everyone will like your content

Being famous on TikTok does not mean that everyone will like you: no one can be unanimous. Some users will not like your content and will not hesitate to tell you so. This is not necessarily a bad thing: haters create a lot of engagement!

Assume that if someone disagrees with you, it is always a good idea to listen . If a user is mean or insulting, you can choose to ignore or block them.Β

But you can also adopt a very effective technique which consists in answering a hater's comment with a TikTok. Many content creators have gained a lot of subscribers with this technique.

7. Connect with other TikTokeers

Many TikTokers aim to become famous, but not everyone sees it as a competition.

On the contrary, helping each other will take you further than rivalry. Indeed, by interacting with other content creators, liking their TikToks, leaving comments and sending messages, you can forge friendships or opportunities for collaboration.

And there's nothing like collaborations between TikTokers to expand your community! The Duo feature lends itself particularly well to the exercise since it allows you to react to the TikTok of the creator of your choice. For example, you can respond to a challenge launched by a creator!

8. Collaborate with brands

No list to break into TikTok would be complete without this advice...

Don't know what a brand collaboration is? It's simply when a brand hires a content creator (like a TikTok influencer) to create branded content for them.

You've probably seen photos and videos of influencers recommending a brand's products. This content was most likely sponsored by the brand in question. Moreover, an influencer is obliged to explicitly mention this to their community when content is sponsored.

Collaborations with brands allow you to produce better quality content because you are paid. And therefore gain more subscribers: it's a win-win!

Sleeq agency had the pleasure to launch a campaign around the fun and friendly atmosphere game TopTen for Asmodee Group. We activated influencer Remy David, who made us (again) a very fun role-playing game! πŸ˜‚
